Nina’s illustration is cosmopolitan, and responds to national trends. Issues in NYC can influence the world; “Black Lives Matter” has led to global awareness of institutionalized racism. The coronavirus has led to required wearing of face masks, and thus generated an international fashion which in Nina's hand reveals motifs of culture and national icon. Nina is from Taiwan, where she was born and grew up in unique Hakka culture. Now she inhabits the sea of diversity and dynamism that is the metropolitan culture of NY. She catches the fashion trend which is part of pop culture, but also her illustrations mingle the of model’s movement, posture, as well as the environment.
Nina Edwards is a fashion illustrator based in New York City. She studied illustration at Fashion Institute of Technology where she earned her BFA degree. She continued for to an MFA at California State University, Fullerton. Her work has appeared in major publications in the U.S., Taiwan, UK, and Japan. Nina is also an adjunct professor at Pratt Institute where she teaches Introduction to Fashion Illustration and Creative Careers. Her work has appeared in numerous books, magazines, and art galleries, and on licensing products. Her national client list includes many familiar names: Art Hearts Fashion Week, Style Fashion Week, New York Garment District Alliance, Scholastic, Bridal Guide Magazine, Girls’ Life, Seventeen, Sweet 16, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Gap, Banana Republic, Minika Ko, EVA Air, Target, Madison Park Greetings, the Gift Wrap Company, Design Design, Inc., Bed Bath & Beyond, and Taipei Economics and Culture Center in New York. During NY Fashion week, she was invited by the Style Fashion Week producer to do live fashion portraits for the guests and models during fashion shows, and she is also a regular fashion illustration contributor for the official New York Fashion Week magazine. She has also been invited by various locations of the NYC Apple Store to demonstrate how to use simple sketching apps to create amazing digital fashion illustrations. She has been active in graphic design, advertising, editorial illustration, greeting card, and social expression for nearly 20 years. Her expertise includes digital and watercolor illustrations, especially integrating opposing elements such as traditional and modern, Eastern and Western, and art and technology into her illustrations and designs.
Nina published a fashion and branding book “From Fantasy To Reality: How To Make Your Creative Dreams Come True In Style” in 2019 in Taipei and had 8 successful book signing events there plus more in New York City.
