THE MOMENT at Queens Museum & Passport Thursday, 2015
International Passport is an interactive performance that satirizes satire. Assuming the appearance of a police officer or CIA agent, the artist will ask every visitor entering the gallery if they have a passport on them. If they don’t have a passport (which most won’t), a new passport will be made for them -- ideally using a photo of the visitor's own face. Rather than adopting the gruff demeanor of a police officer or federal agent demanding to see people’s passports, the performance will openly permit everyone a passport. The item itself (the passport) that will be handed out will clearly indicate that it’s good for international travel. In this way, the openness of borders will be highlighted. Everyone who leaves the gallery, everyone who interacts with the performance, will have the ability to travel anywhere in the world, and even beyond -- including such destinations as the Sun, Moon, Mars, and more.
